However, they were pushed all the way by Jens Rathsack helming MON 2, crewed by two top Portuguese sailors, Tiago Marcelino & Diogo Pereira from Cascais.
Runners Up in the 2018 European Championships in Balatonfured, MON 2
Those of us that had the pleasure of experiencing top quality racing managed by an excellent Principle Race Officer, Bojan Gale, in this special part of the world, will remember the friendly welcome, the great social parties and extremely competitive sailing. It was a European Championship to savour and there is no doubt the best 3 teams made it to the final podium. All of the 6 completed races had great starting lines, well laid courses incorporating appropriate changes at the correct times. Much respect and a huge thank you goes to Bojan and his team for making these European’s the best they could be.
The “TOP” 3 Dragon Teams in Europe. From left to right MON 2 Diogo Pereira, Jens Rathsack, Tiago Marcelino (runners up). Alexander Shalagin, Anatoly Loginov & Vadim Statsenko (winners) Andrey Kirilyuk, Dmitry Samokhin & Alexey Bushuev (3rd).

So another fantastic achievement from Anatoly & his RUS 27 team, very well done guys. Also to Jens, Tiago & Diogo great sailing all week. Then finally to the Hungarian National Champions, RUS 76 who on this occasion had to settle for a very creditable 3rd place…….
Top Three Corinthians Teams, GER 1135 2nd, SWE 389 1st and HUN 49 3rd.
Leading the Corinthians was SWE 389 helmed by Karl Gustaf-Lohr, crewed by Jesper Bendix & Mads Hansen. This well drilled team finished a fantastic 5th place overall after recording some amazing results for example 2nd in Race 2 followed by a 3rd in Race 3. Not far behind was the Corinthian team from GER 1135 led by Phillip Ocker, with Florian Grosser & Christopher Sachs, who finished a creditable 7th overall. The final Corinthian Podium place went to HUN 49 helmed by Peter Tenke, with Adam Szorenyi & Istvan Varga. Many congratulations to all and good to see two Corinthian boats in the top 10.
Traditional Hungarian Dancing at the Opening Ceremony, was enjoyed by all competitors.
Finally many congratulations to event Organiser and Hungarian Secretary Vimos Naray, (left) who put together a wonderful “European Championship” both on and off the water. Also thanks again to Race Officer Bojan Gale (centre), who provided the very best racing and to all the helpers and volunteers …….
We leave Balatonfured after a fantastic Championship, with happy memories, enriched lives and many more new friends….. 🙂
