Italian Champions, GER 1068 Malte Philipp, Ingo Ehrlicher (Helm) & Tommy Auracher.
There were two more races completed yesterday (Sun 26th), in San Remo to conclude the Italian National Championships. The wind was between 12 to 16 kts from 220-230 degrees, so conditions were perfect for the final day. Although the line was set with a strong Port Bias, it was the boats who started at the Committee Boat end of the line and tacked immediately who gained the most. GER 1068 “Dottore Amour” helmed by Ingo Ehrlicher was first to the top mark of the 1.7 mile beat and with the brilliant crew work of former World Champion Malte Philipp and Tommy Auracher they held onto the lead to win the race. This win gave this top German team the overall championship on just 8 points so they did not need to sail the final race…..
Close racing at the Italian Championships in San Remo yesterday, in perfect conditions. (FRA 391 Jean Breger leading this pack finished a creditable 5th place overall).
2nd in the first race was GER 1177 “Pow Wow” helmed by Pedro Andrade who pushed the winners hard but even if Pedro and his team of Charles Nankin & Tim Tavinor won the final race of the day, they would only finish on 8pts (equal points with Ingo), then loose on “count back”. This indeed was exactly what happened so despite winning the final race the “Pow Wow” team had to settle for a well fought “runners up” place overall.
2nd Overall GER 1177 Charles Nankin, Timothy Tavinor & Pedro Andrade (Helm).
Finishing in 3rd place overall was our current World Champion Yevgeni Braslavets, (right) crewed by Deigo Negri and Eugeny Kushienko, who had to fight hard to stay ahead of pre-favourites and current European Champions RUS 27 (Anatoly Loginov, Vadim Statsenko & Alexander Shaligin) who finished 4th.
Leading the Corinthian sailors was FRA 409 “Tsuica” from Yacht Club de Cannes, sailed by Gerard Blanc, crewed by Jean Gabriel Charton and Nicolas Giraud. This non-professional team fought hard to finish 7th overall which is a great result amongst the many top Professional Teams…..
Event organiser Umberto Zocca De Montelupo (right) was very pleased with the Championship and reminded all Sailors that the next Dragon event in San Remo will be 19th to 21st May the “Festa del Marta”… Sounds great 🙂
