Marcus Brennecke takes the Victory.

Here in Cascais, the final day of races had to be cancelled due to extreme wind conditions, but with 5 races already sailed GER 1080 helmed by Marcus Brennecke and crewed by his “Bavarian Dream Team” (Hoesch and Lip) took the title of the 3rd winter series finishing on 10pts. Right on his heels in 2nd place overall on 12pts was POR 46 helmed by Francisco Pinheiro, crewed by his brother Vicente’ and local sailmaker Diogo Pereira. This was the best  placed Portuguese boat of the whole three events so far and shows how high the standard of Dragon Sailing has now reached in Portugal. In 3rd place was POR 47 helmed by Henrique Anjos, crewed by Jorge Lima and Rubrio Basillo on 14pts.

The Yacht Clube Naval President, Jose Matoso´ POR 55 finished in 4th position overall just ahead of last series winners GRB 751 Lawrie Smith.  With19 boats racing over the weekend in various but predominantly strong wind conditions it was another great success for the Cascais organisers and helpers. It was a great way to conclude the 2010 season and winner Brennecke said “It was great to be back again in the Dragon Class. Good sailing, very nice people and excellent hospitality here in Cascais. I am looking forward to next season”…..

Many of the sailors here will now be setting their sights on the World Championships in Melbourne, 7th-14th Jan 2011.

The “Bavarian Dream Team” will be joining Tommy Muller, Andrew Craig will soon be on his way down under, as will Lawrie Smith, Martin Payne, Tim Tavinor, Ossie Stewart, Brian Matthews and Mark Petit. Is Melbourne ready ????
