Stavros in Cascais.. 2nd Winter Series.

After the 52 boat gathering in Cannes last week, today see’s the Yacht Club Naval fly the flag for Portugal as they host the 2nd Winter Series event here in Cascais.  25 boats are expected to test their skills and fine tune their crewing techniques, as eyes begin to focus on the World Championships in Melbourne. Some of today’s participants have already sent boats to Australia, so this regatta provides a ideal chance to gain valuable “Top Competition” practice prior to making the long journey down under.

Amongst the “Top Competition” about to battle it out against the very talented local fleet, are GBR Olympic Medalist Laurie Smith & Ossie Stewart, who have incorporated Petticrow owner, Tim Tavinor in their crew as they set their sights on a good result in Oz.  Top IRL team Andrew Craig, Mark Pettit and Brian Matthews will be sailing hard this weekend to make sure Laurie does not have it easy…..  Meanwhile the two RUS teams of Olga White and Mikhail Muratov will push hard to gain a podium place as will the two representatives from SWE (ex IDA Chairman) Thomas Olrog will be helming his brand new “De ja Vue” and Stefan Wineburg who knows these waters well……..    With a brand new team from GER as well as the famous former World Champion Vincent Hoesch sailing with his top crew Micky Lip, the event looks set for some fantastic racing in this excellent venue…..

The weather forecast looks perfect, the scene is set, the Gladiators are ready.. let the game commence!

Higher, Faster, Longer……………   Stavros.
