The Winning Team “Jerboa” from Cannes.

First at the armistice cup 2015Armistice Cup Winners, Mark Hart, Gavia Wilkinson (helm) & Cian Guilfoyle.

The first winter series in Cannes over the weekend saw 28 boats from 12 different Nations complete 5 races in light winds and beautiful sunny conditions. GBR 761 “Jerboa” eventually won the Armisitice Cup after winning the final race which equalled the 18pts obtained by GBR 375 “Blue Haze”, but Gavia, Mark & Cian won on “count back”.  So Ivan Bradbury, crewed by Lars Hendriksen and Claus Olesen had to settle for the runners up position, another excellent event for Ivan in his 1959 Pedersen & Thuesen.

In 3rd place was the ever improving team from Estonia sailing “Abb Fun” EST 17, helmed by Mihkel Kosk, crewed by Niklas Janson & Kasper Kamu. This young team following their excellent 2nd place in St Tropez will be hard to beat in the future as they continue to show great speed in the light winds.

The event saw many top international teams competing and it was good to see Ben Cauwenbergh finding some of his old form after changing boats this season. Ben sold his “Blackout” Dragon earlier in the year (you know the black and white boat), to purchase a newer Petticrows, so along with his usual top team of Manu Hens and Thibaud Den Hartich must have been pleased with their 4th place overall.  5th place overall was FIN 85 “Thouban” helmed by Christian Borenius, crewed by Chris Winter and Richard Pernici who are always tough to beat and enjoy the conditions in Cannes..

Karine Green and all the helpers and volunteers now invite sailors to their final regatta of 2016, the Coupe d’Hiver Dec 4th to 6th.  Meanwhile Cascais will be running it’s first winter series event next weekend, Nov 13th to 15th where as many teams will be making their way down to Portugal for the winter.. So fellow sailors you are spoilt for choice..  Cannes or Cascais..?  Or why not have 2 boats and do both 🙂

Higher, Faster, Longer…..      Stavros.
