Pieter Heerema’s “Dream Team” Win Dutch Nationals…

In Holland yesterday, NED 412 “Troika” helmed by Pieter Heerema, crewed by Lars Hendricksen and Theis Palm, won the Open Dutch National Championship with a race to spare! The 3rd day was very light and fluky in Muiden, with many place changes during the two races. However, last years champion Pieter Heerema sailing his beautifully restored Pedersen and Thuesen coped very well with the difficult conditions to secure overall victory without having to sail the final race today.

Pieter told me “Yes Stavros, won with a race to go….. but only just!  Very light winds, sometimes actually not raceable, very fluky as well. Anyway, good training for the Gold Cup both for us and the Race Committee who did a really good job and are really open to input. Sailing with this “Dream Team” (Theis and Lars) was a special experience, one of the highlights of my career”.

SThe “Dream Team” go to work on NED 412 “Troika” on day 3 of the Dutch Open…

Meanwhile the battle is on today for the other “podium” positions. Whilst the “Bakkers” NED 406 hold on to their runners up spot as tightly as possible, a challenge has not only come from the “Man” Poul-Richard Hoj-Jensen, but also Boris Bayer in the “Doomernik” NED 373. It will be interesting to see the final outcome of this highly contested event……..  Good luck to all.

La Rochelle…….   continued.

RUS 27 “Annapurna” turned up the “heat” on the rest of this 23 boat fleet yesterday, by scoring 1st, 4th and 1st….  Quite a remarkable day from Anatoly Loginov and his top team. This near “perfect” day gives them a 2pt lead over POR 66 “Drago” Jose Matoso and 5pts in front of the excellent new FRA 405 team, Phillipe Presti. With two more races to go, it looks as though the winner will come from one of these 3 boats as the 4th placed boat FRA 396 “Legend” with Remi Arnaud is now 10pts behind. However, it’s never over till it’s over..

Switzerland continued……..

There was also reasons for major celebrations in Rorschach yesterday as newcomer to the class Peter Cunningham helming CAY 789 “Bear” crewed by Simon Fry and Pedro Andrade, tore into the fleet again recording a 15, 1st and 3rd. So discarding the 15th gives this “brand new” team 1st, 3rd, 1st , 3rd and an 8pt lead over the fleet with just one day remaining…..

Rumour has it a certain helmsman was seen “dancing” on a table at last evenings dinner….  Strange what a bit of alcohol and sunshine can do :-)

Higher, Faster, Longer…………..    Stavros.  (ANT 1).
