Karl Grebstadt HKG 51 leads in Hong Kong…..

Karl, Rick and Greg.

Karl Grebstadt made the best of some excellent sailing conditions on the first day to lead the Hong Kong Nationals, recording 1st, 3rd, 3rd and 1st positions after 4 races. The course set south of Middle Island was shared by Flying Fifteens, Sportsboats and J 80’s but despite various different upwind and downwind marks some of the rounding’s proved somewhat “Hairy” !  I think the race committee may distance the leeward marks today…

But an excellent time was had by all with the wind mainly favouring the left-hand-side of the course against a reasonably strong current. Other race winners than Karl were husband and wife team Phyllis Chang HKG 50 and Lowell Chang HKG 46 who, for this event, were sailing in different boats to boost the numbers in this very enthusiastic fleet. Also showing good speed with his brand new Doomernik Dragon was Tam Nguyen HKG 55 who recorded a 6th, 2nd, 2nd and 3rd to still be in the hunt for the overall title that concludes today. Three more races are planned with the forecast of sun, warm water and 18-20kts of wind, which should make for another great day of competition in this wonderful sailing location. Hong Kong has a tremendous amount to offer and I for one hope to return to sail here as the fleet grows in interest and becomes more popular……

Final results to follow, plus some more great photo’s from Guy Nowell.

Higher, Faster, Longer……………    Stavros. (HKG 55).
