Helsinki Dragon Gold Cup 2018 - Day 2

Post by anni.hammaren » Tue Jul 24, 2018 8:15 am

The second day of Gold Cup begun traditionally with the skippers briefing.

The weather forecast had been less than promising with the wind, but luckily the forecasts aren’t always correct! This was the case on the second day of the Dragon Gold Cup and wind conditions were good after all. In addition to that the weather was sunny and warm, around 24°C, which can be considered quite lucky. It’s not every day in Finland you get to go sailing wearing only a t-shirt and shorts.

Around midday all together 59 dragons left the marina. In the Gold Cup there are competitors from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey and even one dragon all the way from the United Arab Emirates!

After the race Na’am kitchen served tasty nasi goreng to all the sailors. Thank you once again Na’am!

Climbing up the podium, on the highest stand, were Jørgen Schönherr, Christian Videbæk and Theis Palm (DEN 411). Jürgen Schönherr, the skipper of the winning boat, was pleased with their race.

“We had a good start, but ran into some trouble after that. However, we were able to catch up and ended up winning the race. I hope we can keep the same pace tomorrow”, Jørgen Schönherr comments. Congratulations to the winning crew!

After the second day the overall leaders of the Gold Cup are Jørgen Schönherr, Christian Videbæk and Theis Palm (DEN 411) with a five point lead compered to the second crew, Pieter Heerema, Lars Hendriksen and George Leonchuk (NED 412).

The second day was sponsored by Vestek. Vestek is a Finnish import company that has over 50 years of experience in importing and wholesales. Vestek offers supplies and machinery for various fields of business, one of the main ones being the boating industry. Vestek also provided the daily prizes for the second day, which included watches and technical shirts. Thank you Vestek for all the support.
